Meals & Music: Part One

**4 course meal with 5 courses of listening: Greek spread & Gustav Mahler** This is the first in a series of openseat events themed around different music experiences co-hosted with musicians who play the genre being explored. My co-host, Neil (a classical hornist), has chosen 5 moments of Gustav Mahler's music, inspired by the courses of food described below. Neil will take us through these moments of listening with some insights and cues on what to listen for. He describes Mahler's music as vivd and picturesque. He says that the music portrays deep and extreme emotions, from great joy, majesty and heroism to depression and loss. While his music is not very well known or easy to listen to, Neil shares that every time he has introduced someone to Mahler, they wished that they had heard him sooner. The hope of this evening is to learn to listen together, share our experiences of what we hear, and leave the evening with some handles on how to listen to classical music in the future. And, of course, to enjoy a delicious meal and make some new friends! *There are only 7 seats, so please book soon while there is availability.* **1st course : Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates With Honey** Dates stuffed with goats cheese and pecan nut halves, drizzled in honey. **2nd course : Greek Tomato Fritters – Tomatokeftedes** Tomato, corn, feta, zuchinni, red onion fritters served with greek yoghurt and mint sauce **3rd course : Lamb/ falafel pita spread** Oregano marinaded lamb strips with cucumber, Greek yoghurt, plum tomatoes and feta/ goats cheese. (lamb substituted with falafels for vegetarian option) **4th course : Traditional Baklava** My friend's grandmother's trusted recipe. 1 glass of red wine will be served with the meal. Bring your own alcohol if you would like anything else.
